Author Stephen Norman invites you to the launch of his new book "The Big Climb" exploring Colombia's cycling history and champions on Tuesday 10th December from 6:30pm, FREE, RSVP.
Lots of countries have mountains. And cycling enthusiasts. So what's the secret of the Colombians? Young Colombians have won the Tour de l'Avenir four times in the last nine years. Those young Colombians went on to win the Giro d'Italia, the Vuelta a Espana and now the Tour de France.
Thriller writer and cycling fan Stephen Norman was so intrigued by this question that he spent 18 months and 2 trips to Colombia, researching the answer and assembling it into a book, The Big Climb.. During his research, he discovered a treasure trove of old cycling photographs in Medellin, 134 of which are reproduced in the book along with maps and charts. Stephen also delved into the darker side of the Colombian story, the drugs and the doping.. Did you know that Pablo Escobar was a keen cycling fan and bought a bike factory for his brother?
It's all in The Big Climb, a 168 page, full colour book charting the history of Colombian cycling from 1951 to today.
Signed copies of The Big Climb will be on sale for £20.00 on the night (RRP £22.50).
