Beatrice Filippini was 27 years old, working an intensive care nurse in London, when she decided to quit and pursue her dream of cycling in South America.
Over 10 months she covered 11,500 km on her own. Starting from the northernmost tip of Colombia, reaching the point where the southernmost road in the world stops - Puerto Williams, Chile. All on the bike that accompanied her since her University days: a red 3-speed folding bike.
A few days in, she was robbed of her backpack. With an already minimalist set up, she continued through the Andes (up to 5,000 m), Amazonia, sand and salt deserts, Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego. While traveling she tried to reduce her environmental impact to almost 0. Eating waste products from shops and supermarkets, and sleeping in a tent. She supported the low cost trip by cooking and selling Empanadas in the squares where she stopped.
During her adventures Beatrice experienced firsthand the overwhelming welcoming nature and goodness of the South American people. Even though she travelled alone, she never really felt it.

Her book PedalAnde capturing this journey was printed on April 19, 2019. Buy a signed copy on the night for a suggested donation of £15.00. All proceeds from these sales will be donated to the Association "La Gomena ODV" for the construction of a shelter in Kiev (Ukraine) which will be open to all: children, the handicapped, refugees, the poor and marginalised of the city. Their goal is to raise 400,000 €.
