Look mum no hands!

icare / mont ventoux, 80km/h

On display at 49 Old St. until the end of August 2018 is French artist Myles aka gethan&myles' artwork / show bike titled: icare / mont ventoux, 80km/h.

"On 16 July 2011, gethan&myles climb Mont Ventoux. During the descent, thanks to a combination of speed (around 80km/h – but who was looking?) and his famed poor posture, myles’ bike starts to become unstuck from the road. First the front wheel becomes light. When he pushes on the bars to stabilise it the back wheel begins to float... The bike flies. When gethan arrives at the bottom she has cramp. In her cheeks. From smiling all the way down. In the good old days before the arrival of carbon frames, committed cyclists used to drill holes in their frames to lighten them. Inevitably sometimes they went too far and their frame would collapse en route."

Euphoria. Ecstasy. Elation. Elevation.

"‘Show bikes’ that we never ride are a sad thing. This bike was ridden for 30 years before it's transformation. The original frame - a Vitus 979 - had become unstable and dangerous."

Come and enjoy this show bike at 49 Old St. before it flies away.
